shwood Study

Project: Concept Sketches for Shwood Flagship Store, Portland OR.

Year: 2014

Type: Commercial Tenant Infill Study

Total Time: 2 hours

Summary: In 2014 I sat down with a friend of the startup sunglasses company, Shwood, and came up with some concepts for how the flagship retail space might look and feel. I quickly sketched these ideas out, along with some of the details and features that might really accentuate the material qualities of sunglasses made from wood.

The concept was to worship wood, in all it’s forms and qualities. The store would play with wood in various forms and articulations, ultimately highlighting their product as part of the overall worship of wood.

It should be noted that this work was the request of a person affiliated in initial stage concept and business development, but with no formal business links currently. It is not specifically authorized by Shwood. However, the purpose of showing this work is to highlight my process with regards to a real world product and the associated exercise.
