Hi, I’m andy
I’m an architect practicing (mostly) residential architecture locally in the East Bay and on a sustainably small scale.
SM + SM
My practice area and focus sit at the confluence of a small geographical radius and a small scale of project (mostly). This doesn’t preclude me from going big (see experience), but I find small is fast, consumable, understandable, and achievable. One can do a lot with a little. It’s the sweet spot where my practice and skills thrive. I like to walk to projects, and work with neighbors. I like to work on projects that are easy to understand, easy to build, easy to achieve.
solutions over size
No matter the size, I help my clients solve nagging architectural issues with their homes, create beautiful, livable spaces, and make their everyday lives better through improved use and quality of their built environment.
Big or small, the focus is on creating solutions to client’s design problems. It’s not always an architectural solution. Sometimes it is simply reconfiguration of space, a shift in use, a change in the way a person thinks about where they are. Outputs and needs vary from person to person. Sometimes acknowledging that doing nothing is the best solution. Nothing more than a shift in perception.
I like this type of work. I like helping and serving with these methods in this way. I like clarity of thought and simple, effective solutions. I like solving problems.
